We were going to write a blog post for November about Bonfire Night events in Dolgellau and the Barmouth, Twyn & Bala areas but as we come to post this, local events are either cancelled or in a state of hiatus. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and we’ll keep you updated as we find the latest on these.
Instead, and given the current situation, we thought we’d highlight a few days out and activities, available around the Royal Ship Hotel over the winter period. Many can be done as small groups, some are more suited to individuals; all can be enhanced by starting, finishing or including within them a little light refreshment… obviously.
For example, in our October post, we talked about how we welcome dogs and highlighted a few dog friendly walks in the area. If that’s you, then you can still read that article, do the walk and bring your pooch for some post perambulation pampering.
However, as the nights get longer and the days cooler, we thought we’d highlight a few of our favourite winter activities and some that our regular visitors like to do when they visit the Royal Ship Hotel too.
Things to do in Dolgellau throughout winter
Southern Snowdonia was absolutely made for enjoying winter, both for the active and those looking to relax and just enjoy the scenery. If you like to watch the world trundle by then take a trip on one of our local heritage railways. The Tallyllyn at Twyn, the Fairbourne miniature Railway and the Bala Lake Railway are all open with various timetables over winter. Tallyllyn is running special events in November and December too.
For the active, two fantastic options spring to mind. It’s hard to beat a good winter walk up Cader Idris, which you can actually see from our front door. Alternatively, take to two wheels and enjoy a day bashing around the Coed-Y-Brenin mountain bike centre.
So, there you go. If you’re lucky enough to find a Halloween or Bonfire Night party near Dolgellau, to kick off the early part of the festive season, we’ll be here if you’d like to book a table and make night of it.
If however, the current situation precludes that, then perhaps you’ll think of us and pop in when you’re enjoying the great outdoors and the best that winter has to offer in Southern Snowdonia.
